About Iowa Real Estate Academy
State-Approved, Industry-Tested Courses for Iowa Real Estate Agents & Brokers
At Iowa Real Estate Academy, we believe “mandatory” doesn’t have to mean “boring.” Our courses are designed to be the place where you can launch your career or give it the boost it needs—and have fun doing it.
IREA is a place where real estate agents and brokers can learn the basics of the trade, build connections with peers, and find on-the-ground knowledge you won’t find anywhere else. With both self-paced and live via Zoom options, we also provide the flexibility that busy Iowa real estate agents need.
Meet Amy Schafer, Founder & Director of Education
Amy Schafer is a licensed broker who has been practicing real estate in Iowa since 2002. As founder and director of education at Iowa Real Estate Academy, she’s passionate about using her experience to help other Iowans grow their real estate careers.
Like many new agents, Amy struggled early in her career. But once she found the right training, her business took off. She became an approved instructor with the Iowa Real Estate Commission in 2015 and founded Iowa Real Estate Academy in 2020 to help other Iowans get the support they need to launch their careers. Amy also regularly audits the PSI exam, giving her firsthand insight into the skills today’s real estate leaders need to know.
Through her courses, Amy blends course requirements with personal stories that bring the concepts to life. She’s a firm believer that learning should be fun, so expect a few laughs along the way.

Hazel, Director of Cuteness
Hazel is a miniature schnauzer with no real estate experience but a natural talent for stealing the show.
If you’ve taken a class with the Academy, you’ve likely seen Hazel in the background–usually asleep on the couch, occasionally repositioning herself for maximum comfort, or squeezing into a chair for a mid-class snuggle.
She may not teach contracts or agency, but Hazel has mastered the art of showing up consistently… and looking adorable while doing it.
